Historically, Tamilians made their mark in every field of art and literature spawning interest from anthropologists, historians and other social scientists both in India & abroad.

பாரம்பரியமும், கலாச்சாரமும்

உலகத் தொன்மையான  மொழிகளில் ஒன்றான தமிழ் பிறந்த இடம் இந்தியாவின் தென்னகமான “தமிழகம்” ஆகும். பல்லாயிரம் வருடங்களைக் கடந்து வாழும் தமிழும், தமிழ் இனமும் செழுமையான இலக்கியங்களையும், தொன்மையான  பாரம்பரிய கலாச்சாரங்களையும் கொண்டுள்ளது.

உலகின் பழைய நாகரிங்களில் மூத்த நாகரிகமான தமிழ் நாகரிகத்தை தமிழர்கள் தங்களது மூச்சினும் மேலாக இன்றளவும் காத்துக் கொண்டு வருகிறார்கள். பல்லாயிரம் ஆண்டு வரலாற்றினைக் கொண்டத் தமிழ் கலாச்சாரம் பல்வேறு (மொழி, இனம், கட்டிடக்கலை, விளையாட்டு, உணவு, உடை, பண்டிகைகள், மற்றும் பல) வடிவங்களில் பரந்து விரிந்து நிற்கிறது. “உணவே மருந்து” என்ற தனது தனித்துவமான வாழ்வியல் நெறிகளால், தமிழ்க் கலாச்சாரம் இந்தியாவில் மட்டுமின்றி, அயல் நாடுகளிலும் செழித்தோங்கி வளர்ந்து வருகிறது.

தமிழன் தன் பல்வேறு உணர்ச்சிகளை வெளிப்படுத்தும் விதமாக பல்வேறு கலைகளை இவ்வுலகிற்கு தருவித்தான் . அவற்றுள் நாட்டுப்புறக் கலை, பரதம், கர்நாடக சங்கீதம், கரகாட்டம், கும்மி, பொம்மலாட்டம், வில்லுப்பாட்டு, கூத்து, போன்றச் சிலவற்றைக் குறிப்பிடலாம். தமிழ் கலாச்சாரம் வீரத்திற்கு பெயர்ப் போனது. அதன் சாராம்சமாக ஏறு தழுவல், இளவட்டக் கல் தூக்கல், சிலம்பாட்டம் போன்றவற்றைக் கூறலாம்.

தென் கலிபோர்னியா, லாஸ் ஏஞ்சல்ஸ் மாகாணத்தில் இருக்கும் தென் விரிகுடா தமிழ்ச் சங்கம் செழுமையான தமிழ் கலாச்சாரத்தைப் போற்றி வளர்த்து அடுத்த தலைமுறையினருக்கு எடுத்துச் செல்வதில் முக்கியப் பங்கு வகிக்கிறது.
