South Bay Tamil Kalvi (SBTK), a DBA of South Bay Tamil Sangam, was instituted in 2015 with a primary objective of promoting and teaching Tamil, a classical language with a very long history and rich literature, to the children and young adults living in Southern California, Los Angeles region.

SBTK is an affiliated school of International Tamil academy (ITA) formerly known as California Tamil Academy (CTA), which provides the Tamil syllabus to teach kids raised in a foreign country with fewer opportunities otherwise to learn and speak Tamil in their day to day lives. SBTK offers weekly classes ranging from preschool to 8th grade providing kids to study ten years of Tamil language. SBTK has been functioning with tireless support from Volunteer Teachers and parents at a rented facility from Los Angeles School District.

We have a very strong volunteer support, to provide personal attention and plan various activities for the students all through the year which includes cultural activities, annual day, Inter & Intra School competitions, etc.

Our volunteer run library system “VENBA” is a great window for both parents and students to start learning more about popular Tamil literature and explore the lives of ancient Tamilians. We find that, the most effective way to make the language more interesting is to engage the kids to explore the language on their own.
